There’s a ritual that happens each night in Lima. Around dusk, the anticucho ladies drag their carts out onto the streets and grill for a couple of hours. Cafes continue to serve coffee and sandwiches late into the night.
If you’re staying in Miraflores, which you should be, you can take a stroll up Avenida Larco to see all of this stuff for yourself. As you walk with your back to the ocean, about 3/4 of the way to John F. Kennedy park, you will run into Manolo Churros. This is not to be missed.
There are glass cases throughout the cafe that display all kinds of monstrous sandwiches and pastries. These can be enjoyed at will, but the do-not-miss item is the stuffed churros. Take your pick: vanilla, chocolate, or dulce de leche. Maybe you take one of each. If you’re like me, you’ll be back for more the next evening.
This evening ritual is a great way to get a feel for the Limeña culture. Enjoy...
